Talking science with young students about sleep and dreams

As part of our outreach activities, we were delighted to meet with Danish middle school students during their project weeks to talk about sleep, dreams, and the brain. Students from 7th grade interviewed us about the science of dreaming as part of a theme week on “Reality and Fantasy,” while 8th-grade students from Thomasskolen in Skovlunde spoke with us about sleep habits and how sleep may influence school performance.

These conversations gave students the opportunity to ask their own questions about how the brain works during sleep, why we dream, and how sleep supports learning and memory. At the same time, they gave us a chance to share how neuroscience research connects to everyday life.

Take control of your sleep – Talks by sleep scientists at Folkeuniversitetet, Copenhagen

Celia will give a lecture about what happens in the brain when we sleep at the University of CopenhagenAU this Thursday evening the 23rd of October. Learn more here about the event, registration and other upcoming sleep talks on the Folkeuniversitetet website.

Meet us at Copenhagen’s Culture Night 2025

On October 10th, the Faculty for Health and Medical Sciences opens its doors to the public. You can learn more about sleep at our mini Sleep-Lab that we will run with colleagues from the Kornum Lab group. Additionally you can explore 16 more mini-labs and, for example, take a VR roller coaster ride in the Organ Tivoli, build sugar molecules out of LEGO, or taste the sustainable food of the future. You can find us at Panum (Blegdamsvej 3B, 2200 København N) between 18:00 and 23:00.

Understanding the world with scientists

On 24 February and 11 March 2025, you can listen to Celia talk about ‘While we sleep, the brain is at work’ in the lecture series ‘Latest News from Health Sciences’ and ‘The Brain For Life’ at Folkeuniversitetet in Aarhus, Emdrup & Herning.
